WHAT THE PRESS IS SAYING ABOUT RAQUEL SOFIA
“A young heart with an old soul, Sofia has a love affair with jazz, blues, folk, rock and pop — and gives us a little bit of everything on her shining debut, Te Quiero Los Domingos [I Love You on Sundays] out today (June 9) via Sony Music Latin. If you have been paying attention, then you saw the promise of a rising star back in 2014, when she released her first single “Agridulce” [Bittersweet], which, to date, has almost 10 million streams on Spotify.”- Billboard
“Raquel Sofia Borges isn’t only Juanes’ back-up singer, she’s also his protégée and the opening act on his 2013 tour. But don’t mistake this pretty face for your average pop dilettante; she plays her own instruments, writes her own material, and girlfriend can sing. The Puerto Rican singer/songwriter gained quite a few fans at Juanes’ first show. I suspect she’ll have a similar effect in every city of this tour. Don’t believe me? Listen for yourself.” ABC News
“We found a bona fide future star in Raquel Sofia, a vocalist who doesn’t even have an album out yet; we fell in love with the three tracks of hers that we found online. We’re told that as soon as she’s done crisscrossing the globe as a backup singer for Juanes, she’ll record her first EP.” NPR
Don’t be fooled by the apparent newcomer status of Puerto Rico’s Raquel Sofia. Wise beyond her years, she’s a seasoned veteran in the Latin music scene, and she’s got the cred to prove it. Until recently, she’s worked from behind the scenes, penning songs and performing back-up vocals for mainstream Spanish-language performers such as Shakira, Juanes, and Prince Royce. Her time under the radar has given the singer-songwriter space to carve out a unique sound, exquisitely on display in her recently released EP Te Odio Los Sábados. Fivetracks
showcase Sofia’s edgy, jazz infused vocals and sonic style that ranges from rockabilly, ska, and ’80s pop-rock. Reminiscent of a young Gloria Trevi and Puerto Rican alt-rock exponents Circo, don’t expect Sofia to tread lightly into the spotlight. – MTV IGGY
“People ask me, ‘Why doesn’t Sony give you a real record deal?’ It is a record deal but a new approach,” said Sofia, who has 7 million streams in 2 months on Spotify. “We’re measuring in streams, we are measuring in views, we are measuring in all these social media platforms. That is the new way of making it.” – Raquel Sofia
